In-Town Program Frequently Asked Questions

How long does the season last?
In-town seasons run for eight weeks in both the fall and spring.

What equipment does my child need?
Shin guards are required. Cleats are strongly recommended, but not required. All players must bring a water bottle to every practice and game.

When will I hear from the coach?
Coaches usually send an introductory email a few days before the start of the season. If you don't hear from them, please don't worry! We often need to shuffle teams around and recruit more volunteer coaches up to the last minute.  Either way, we'll be there to check in players and direct them to their teams.

Will my child play in real games?
While U5 and U6 may play small-sided intrasquad scrimmages at the beginning and end of most practices, these divisions do not play games. The U8 division does play 5v5 games against opposing towns at a neutral site during both the fall and spring seasons.

Are uniforms provided by the League?
All in-town participants will receive a uniform t-shirt. This will serve as the uniform for the U8 division.

Can I volunteer to coach my child's team?
Absolutely!
UYSL is an all-volunteer league, and that includes our coaching staffs at all levels. Any help you can give would be greatly appreciated. Most of our volunteers find they get just as much out of the experience as the players.

Do I need to have playing of coaching experience to volunteer?
Nope. All you need is commitment and a positive attitude. We provide coaches training at the beginning of the season, along with a weekly curriculum. Our Board of Directors is full of experienced coaches ready to help out, should you have any questions.
